The ParaSport and Recreation PEI After School Program is an elementary school program that is provides an inclusive environment so that both children with mobility impairments and able-bodied children can play together and everyone can fully participate. The goal of the program is to help children with a physical disability and their peers become physically active by helping to establish the fundamental skills needed to confidently participate in play and sport.
The program will teach wheelchair fundamental skills as well as fundamental sport skills. Children will have an opportunity to practice and play a variety of wheelchair sports, with a slight emphasis on wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis, as both sports are offered on PEI.
The program is offered every spring at three Island schools, one in each of the three counties. Students from neighboring schools are invited to attend and there is no cost to participate.
