Matheson and Harper Earn Top Bowlers at ParaSport and Recreation PEI’s Provincial Bowling Championships

ParaSport and Recreation PEI held its Annual Provincial Bowling Championships for individuals with a disability at the Murphy’s Community Center this past Sunday.  The event saw over 20 bowlers participate in 5 different categories:  Youth, Female Seated and Standing and Male Seated and Standing.  The Overall Top Bowlers in the event were for the women,  Tanya Matheson with an average pin fall of 141 and for the men, Jonathan Harper with an average pin fall of 183.  The Top Youth Bowler was Samuel da Fonseca with an average pin fall of 70.

ParaSport and Recreation PEI Set Date for Annual General Meeting & Awards Ceremony

May 30, 2016

ParaSport and Recreation PEI is set to host its Annual General Meeting and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the Holiday Inn Express in Charlottetown.

The evening’s Agenda is the following:

5:30 PM:  Meet and Greet Reception (Food and Drinks Provided)

6:00 PM:  Awards Ceremony

6:30 PM:  15 Min Break

6:45 PM:  Annual General Meeting

8:00 PM:  Adjournment

Just a reminder that all Associate Members are encouraged to have a representative in attendance to present highlights from past year (April 1, 2015-March 31, 2016) on behalf of their respective organizations.  For more information,  please email info@parasportpei.ca.

 

 

ParaSport and Recreation PEI Calls For Nominations For Annual Awards

ParaSport and Recreation PEI is pleased to announce that applications are now available for the 2015-2016 Annual Awards along with the School Awards and ParaSport and Recreation PEI Scholarships.

Nominations are being accepted for the following ParaSport and Recreation PEI Awards:

  • Rookie of the Year
  • Phil Bower Memorial Award (“Athlete of the Year”)
  • President’s Award– Recognizes significant and long term support of ParaSport and Recreation PEI by an individual, organization or business.
  • School Awards- For students with a physical disability that are enrolled in school and are actively involved in sport or recreation.  The awards are cash awards and have a value of $25.00 for elementary school students and $50.00 for intermediate school students and $75.00 for high school students.
  • ParaSport and Recreation PEI Scholarships– An athlete with a physical disability that is pursuing post secondary education, valued at $500 (2 available).

Deadline for submission of award nominations is June 6, 2016 and all presentations will be made at the Annual General Meeting that is scheduled for June 15, 2016.

ParaSport and Recreation PEI Provincial Bowling Championships

ParaSport and Recreation PEI’s Annual Bowling Championships for people with a disability are scheduled for Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Murphy’s Community Centre in Charlottetown.  This is a fun and social event, absolutely no bowling experience is necessary.

The tournament classes are the following: Youth (under 18 years of age) and Senior- Male & Female (18 years of age & over) in seated and standing classes.  Awards will be given out to the top three bowlers (highest total pin fall) in each age group and class (Youth & Senior and Seated & Standing).

Following the tournament, participants are invited to stay for the Social/Awards Presentation where we will celebrate our top bowlers and enjoy some yummy food.

Charlottetown to host Jr. East Wheelchair Basketball Championships this Weekend

Charlottetown will play host to the 2016 Junior East Regional Wheelchair Basketball Championships this weekend at Holland College, Centre of Community Engagement.

Games will begin Saturday at 8:00 am. Medal games are Sunday at 8:00 am and will be followed by the medal ceremony at 10:00 am.

The 3-on-3 tournament features the top junior-aged athletes from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, P.E.I. and Quebec who are eligible to participate in the 2019 Canada Winter Games.

There are two divisions, an Open Point Division and a 9-Point Division. In the latter, there can only be a total of nine classification points on the floor during play.

Teams include in the 9-Point Division (Group A) Quebec 1, Ontario 1, Quebec 2 and Ontario 2. The Open Point Division (Group B) includes Quebec 3, P.E.I., New Brunswick, Nova Scotia 1 and Nova Scotia 2.

P.E.I Mustangs coach, Adam Loo will coach the Island team.

The tournament is co-hosted by Wheelchair Basketball Canada and ParaSport and Recreation PEI.
