ParaSport and Recreation PEI is hosting a fundraiser game with the PEI Ice Breakers sledge hockey team playing against the Summerside Police Services. The game will take place at Credit Union Place on Sunday, March 13th at 1:30.
There is no cost to attend however, donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to ParaSport and Recreation PEI.
So come on out, bring your family and friends and cheer for your favourite team!
The World Sledge Hockey Challenge is coming to Charlottetown in December.
The announcement was made on Friday.
“To think that I might have the chance to play in front of my family and friends gives me the chills,” said Summerside native Billy Bridges, who leads the team in goals at this year’s competition in Nova Scotia. “No matter where we get to wear the (Team Canada) jersey, it’s always a great honour to represent your country. No doubt, the fans in P.E.I. will be behind our team.”
The Charlottetown tournament, which will be played at MacLauchlan Arena from Dec. 4 to 11, will be used as a tune-up for the world championships. MacLauchlan Arena hosted the challenge in 2008 and 2009.
ParaSport and Recreation PEI is hosting the 2nd Annual Maritime Sledge Hockey Tournament February 6th & 7th at the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud. The Cape Breton Sledge Hammers and the Halifax Grinders will be competing along with the PEI Ice Breakers.

This major fundraiser raises much needed dollars to support sport and recreation programs for people with a physical disability on PEI. ParaSport and Recreation PEI is pleased to present a “See Yourself Swimming” Clinic on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the CARI Complex. The clinic is designed to introduce people with a physical or visual disability, to the sport of swimming. The clinic is also a great opportunity for parents to learn more about the sport of competitive swimming and to what ParaSport and Recreation PEI and local swim clubs have to offer.
The clinic will be led by Janet Dunn, Para-Development Coach with Swimming Canada. Janet is a pediatric rehabilitation physiotherapist and has been involved with parasport for over 40 years. Janet was a coach on Canada’s Paralympic teams in 1984, 1988 and 2012 in wheelchair athletics and swimming. She has been Swimming Canada’s National Development Para-Swimming Coach since 2009, helping athletes prepare for London 2012 and Rio 2016. We are very excited to have Janet lead the session on the 12th, along with our local para-coaches/instructors.
