ParaSport and Recreation PEI Membership Funding Program
The ParaSport and Recreation PEI Membership Funding Program was created to support ParaSport and Recreation PEI’s individual members and associate members so that more Islanders can participate in recreation and sport opportunities. ParaSport and Recreation PEI provides a variety of opportunities but we recognize that not everyone’s interests are met through our programs. It our goal to increase sport and recreation opportunities for the ParaSport and Recreation PEI membership through this fund. Applications for this funding program are accepted twice annually (April and October).

ParaSport and Recreation PEI School Award Program
The ParaSport and Recreation PEI School Award Program was created through generous support from people throughout the province of Prince Edward Island. This program is intended to recognize students with a physical disability that are enrolled in any of the three levels of school and have demonstrated an interest and involvement in recreation and/or sport. The awards have a monetary value of $25.00 for elementary school students and $50.00 for intermediate school students and $75.00 for high school students.
Eligibility
- Enrolled in the PEI School System;
- Individual who has a physical disability;
- Active in sport/recreation programs at the community or school level.
Requirements
- A School staff member will complete the School Award Nomination Form.
- Nominations must be received by June.
These awards will be presented at the Annual General Meeting of the organization that is held in June.
Applications for this program will open on May 1, 2023.
ParaSport and Recreation PEI Scholarships
ParaSport and Recreation PEI is pleased to offer 2-$500.00 Scholarships to two deserving athletes with a physical disability that are entering university/college in the ensuing upcoming school year. The recipients will be selected by the Board of Directors and the award scholarships will be presented at the Annual General Meeting of the organization that is held in June.
Applications for scholarships will open on May 1, 2023.
Bridging the Gap “Getting Physically Active”
Bridging the Gap (BTG) is a national program that designed to introduce and support the continued participation of individuals with physical disabilities in wheelchair sport and recreational activities. This is achieved through hosting “Have a Go” events that provide opportunities for individuals to experience a variety of parasports in a fun supportive atmosphere. By participating in BTG events, participants learn the benefits of becoming physically active and how being involved can improve their quality of life.
Equipment Loan Program
ParaSport and Recreation PEI has an equipment loan program to minimize the financial burden of participating in sport. This aims to increase the number of people with physical disabilities becoming physically active in recreation and sport. The following equipment is available:
- Basketball Wheelchairs
- Rugby Wheelchairs
- Tandem Bikes
- Handcycles- youth and adult
- Youth Adapted Trike
- Hippocampe
- Hockey sleds and picks
- Goalballs and eye shades
- Boccia Sets
- Moving to Inclusion Equipment Bags – adapted equipment and toys for low organized games
Adult Fitness Program at Synergy Fitness and Nutrition
ParaSport and Recreation PEI has partnered with Synergy Fitness and Nutrition to offer a fitness program for adults with a physical or visual disability. The program changes every 12 weeks and includes cardio and strength training. If you have never been to the gym before or maybe you haven’t been in a while then this is the program for you! All fitness levels are welcome. The program is offered every Saturday morning. To learn more about the program or to register, please contact the ParaSport and Recreation PEI office.
