ParaSport and Recreation PEI is pleased to announce that a wheelchair tennis program is going to be offered on PEI this summer. The program is set to begin on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. It will be offered every Tuesday from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Terry Fox Sports Centre in Cornwall. It is open to individuals with a physical disability of all ages and abilities. No experience is necessary and sport wheelchairs and rackets will be provided. This initiative is made possible through financial contributions from the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Government of Canada.
Wheelchair Tennis
Wheelchair tennis is one of the forms of tennis adapted for those who have disabilities in their lower bodies. The size of courts, balls, and rackets are the same as tennis, but there are two major differences- athletes play using a tennis wheelchair and during play, the ball is allowed to bounce twice. The second bounce may also occur outside the court.
